IBM Lotus SmartSuite - Includes the famous Lotus 123 spreadsheet and the renamed AmiPro word processor and recently IBM Lotus Symphony (free word, spreadsheet and presentation suite).

Floppy Office

Gobe Productive - Originally written for BeOS by developers of the original ClarisWorks, GoBe Productive is a lightweight integrated Works-like office suite with a generous "Hassle-Free License."

Microsoft Office

Papyrus Office - An office suite with DTP ability for several platforms.

SoftMaker Office

StarOffice - An office suite from Sun Microsystems. Based upon code from the OpenOffice.org project, which Sun founded and continues to support.

ThinkFree Office - an office suite written in Java that runs on Windows, Linux, and Macintosh platforms

Corel WordPerfect Office

WPS Office - Chinese office suite, considered to be a serious player in that country. English and Japanese versions are currently available also.

Free suites

GNOME Office - Includes AbiWord, Gnumeric and Gnome-DB data access components, AbiWord and Gnumeric are highly rated software.

OpenOffice.org - Free/open source software project upon which Sun's StarOffice is based. The initial code was developed by Sun Microsystems, which has provided much of the labor for its development since. Its components include Writer, Impress, Math, Draw, Calc, and Base.

Novell Openoffice - Free Features OpenXML translator add-on. Based upon Openoffice. Its components include Writer, Impress, Math, Draw, Calc, and Base.

IBM Lotus Symphony - Free Based upon Openoffice. Its components include Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations.

The following software programs run on Mac computers from Apple, Inc. running Mac OS X.

Proprietary suites

Apple

AppleWorks - Formerly known as ClarisWorks, a famous early office suite. Discontinued (since the release of iWork'08) on 2007-08-15.

iWork - Apple Inc.'s Mac-only office suite. Includes Pages, for word-processing, Numbers for spreadsheets, and Keynote, for presentations.

Microsoft

Office 1, 2, 3, 4, Office 98, Office 2001, Office v. X

Office 2004 for Mac - Office for Mac originally designed for PowerPC Macs. It runs on Intel Macs via the rosetta emulation layer.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac - Most recent, universal binary version of Office for Mac.

Other

MarinerPak - MarinerPak includes Mariner Write, a fully-featured word processor, and Mariner Calc, a fully-featured Spreadsheet application.

ThinkFree - ThinkFree Office is an office suite written in Java. It includes a word processor (Write), a spreadsheet (Calc), and a presentation program (Show).

Free suites

NeoOffice - NeoOffice is a Mac-specific free/open-source software development project, to integrating OpenOffice.org with native features of Mac OS X such as Quartz and Aqua, and by so doing giving the suite a more "Mac-like" look and feel.

OpenOffice.org - OpenOffice.org also provides a version for Mac OS X, which currently requires X11 to run.

Office suites for Unix(-like) operating systems

Proprietary suites

Evermore Integrated Office - An intriguing new Chinese integrated office suite. Existing for Red Hat Linux 8.0 KDE desktop environment or above.

SoftMaker Office 2006 - A strong word processor and spreadsheet, provided by a German company.

StarOffice - A powerful and mature office suite from Sun Microsystems. Based upon code from the OpenOffice.org project, which Sun funded and continues to support.

ThinkFree - Based largely on Microsoft office and mimics its actions. Built using Java and supports mainly Microsoft Office formats.

WPS_Office Microsoft like Office suite.

Lotus Symphony - Produced by IBM and based largely on OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 code. Lotus Symphony supports Microsoft Office Formats, Open Document Formats as well as Lotus Smartsuite formats.

Free suites

OpenOffice.org and its offshoots

OpenOffice.org - The parent project. The initial code was developed by Sun Microsystems, which has also done most of the development since. Its components include Writer, Calc, Impress, and Base, among others.

602Office - A Czech and Slovak commercial version of OpenOffice.org. Contains the 602SQL database program.

Jambo OpenOffice - A Swahili version of OpenOffice.org.

MagyarOffice and EuroOffice - Hungarian and European multilingual commercial office suites based on OpenOffice.org

Other than OpenOffice.org

GNOME Office - a loosely coupled group of free/open-source applications including Abiword and Gnumeric, which is targeted for the GNOME desktop environment.

KOffice - KOffice is a free, integrated office suite for KDE.

Siag Office - A suite with a sense of humor. The word processor is called Pathetic Writer.

Andrew - An office suite developed by Carnegie Mellon University and named after Andrew Carnegie.

Online office suites

eDeskOnline - Java-based.

Google Docs. They have now started spreadsheets, and presentation.

ShareOffice

Simdesk - An online office suite, offering partial compatibility with MS Office formats (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint), and available with a subscription to Simdesk Services (costing $3.50 – $20 per month). With a subscription, one is allowed to install the application anywhere.

ThinkFree Office - Java-based.

Zoho Office Suite - Free online office suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, and collaboration groupware.

Historical

IBM Works was an office suite for the IBM OS/2 operating system. It included word processing, spreadsheet, database and PIM applications.

ClarisWorks - Famous early Mac Office suite. It has morphed and branched into AppleWorks and Gobe Productive. When the original developers split up, ClarisWorks continued as AppleWorks after being bought by Apple, and GoBeProductive was redeveloped from the ground up using ideas from the original.

Lotus Jazz - Mac sister product to Lotus Symphony below.

Lotus Symphony - Following the popularity of office suites made by competitors, the makers of the wildly popular Lotus 123, tried their hand at a suite for Windows. (Name resurrected by IBM in September 2007 as a free OpenOffice based suite)

LotusWorks - DOS and Windows suite containing a word processor, spreadsheet, database, graphing tools and telecommunications (modem terminal) module.

Open Access - Integrated software by Software Products International (SPI).

WindowWorks - Successor to LotusWorks above.

Xoom Office - Historical but still available on eBay and elsewhere. Produced by the former makers of WordStar.
